Travel Photographer of the Year 2023 Winners Announced

After amateur and professional photographers from more than 150 countries submitted more than 20,000 images, it has been revealed that for the second year in a row, a Slovenian photographer has taken the top spot of the Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) photo contest.

AndreJa Ravnak, an architect from Slovenia, won the competition with her photos of hop growing in Slovenia and rolling fields in Italy and the Czech Republic.

“There is a subtle elegance about this year’s winners,” says TPOTY founder Chris Coe. “This comes through in both of AndreJa’s winning portfolios; one takes us into simple landscapes, with delicate colours and a textural beauty, the other into the hop fields, out of season and undressed ready for the next planting. Neither are obvious subjects, neither photographed at an optimal time of year, and yet they are both engaging and rather beautiful.”

AndreJa Ravnak commented that being selected as this year’s winner was “a huge recognition” and it is “such a great honour” to be given this praise by the judges.

Young TPOTY Awards

The Travel Photographer of the Year competition also has three categories that focus on young photographers: an overall Young TPOTY award, a 15-18 years category and a 14 years and under category. This year, all 3 winners are from the United States.

Individual Categories

The competition is broken down in to various categories, such as ‘Landscape and Environment’ and ‘People and Cultures’. From there, the judges have selected a winning portfolio of images, and a single best image, for each category.

Below, Lens Front have selected some of our favourite images – to view all the winning and commended images go to the official competition website.
