How Insta360 tests the durability of their cameras

Earlier in the week, Insta360 released a brand new behind-the-scenes video from their Ace Pro testing facilities, showcasing how they test the durability of their Ace and Ace Pro action cameras.

“With Ace and Ace Pro, we rigorously test our units to ensure maximum durability for the toughest action out there. From drops, to extreme temperatures, even immersion… all in the name of producing an action camera ready for anything,” the video’s description reads.

A so-called ‘GoPro killer’, Insta360 released the Ace Pro late last month. It was co-engineered with Leica, offering 48MP stills, 8K video at 24fps, slow motion 4K video up to 120fps and features a 2.4″ flip-up screen. For a detailed review, I loved the one put out by TechRadar here.

In the video, viewers get to see the cameras get put to the test. Insta360 test out all aspects of the camera’s durability, including the flip-up screen, button life and USB port. Next, they take things up a notch, by dropping ball bearings on the front and rear screens of the camera, and then proceed to drop the Ace Pro from various heights.

The final tests include heating the cameras to 70ºC, then freezing them to -30ºC, before seeing how waterproof they are.
