2023 Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States Winners

The Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in the United States photo competition has announced its winners.

The contest, held by Wikipedia, aims to “improve our coverage of U.S. historic and cultural sites” through encouraging photographers to capture images of notable monuments and releasing them under a Creative Commons license through Wikimedia Commons.

This year saw over 250 people contribute 2,500+ photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. After several weeks and three rounds of judging, ten winners have been selected, who will all receive a cash prize ($500 for the winner), a certificate and will be submitted to the international Wiki Loves Monuments competition.

For the judging of the competition, not only were the images considered for their composition, originality and technical quality, but also for their usefulness to Wikipedia (e.g. less commonly-photographed sites will do better in judging). The subject of the image must also be identifiable and registered as a historical or cultural site by some authoritative organisation.
